Course Description: (2 hours, 1 credit.) Calculus computer software will be used to illustrate ideas in MAT 175. This lab is designed to supplement Calculus instruction through the use of relevant and accessible technology platforms.
Co-requisites MAT 175 is a co-requisite for this course.
Course Objectives: At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Use technology to verify by-hand Calculus computations.
Use technology to graph a function, find its intercepts, identify its intervals of increase/decrease, recognize its local/global maxs/mins, and inspect its concavity.
Use technology to investigate limits.
Use technology to recognize the derivative’s effects on a function’s graph.
Text and Materials. There is no required textbook for this class. However, I strongly recommend that students that struggle with the software download it into their personal computers in order to have access at home.
Communication. Communication is essential to succeeding in this course – this cannot be stressed enough. After identifying topics that may be giving you trouble, please communicate this information to me. It is my goal to create a comfortable environment best conducive for learning.

Labs. Labs will be done in class using Maple* and emailed to me by the end of the class. The subject of the email should be MAT 155 lab # - Section # for example: MAT 155 lab 7 – section 05.
*Maple is available to download for free on CUNY Portal or you can get a copy at the MATH Lab
Getting Help. There are three places that you can (and should) go to for help:
Me. I will be holding office hours, checking my email regularly, and hanging around the department often.
Math Lab. The Math and Computer Science Learning Center is located in GI 222. It is open five days a week and staffed with qualified tutors.
Your Classmates. Your classmates are a valuable resource to ask questions to and exchange information with.
